How To Grow Mushrooms At Home

Mushrooms are a delightful addition to many dishes, and growing them at home can be a fun and rewarding experience. Here’s a beginner’s guide to home mushroom cultivation.

Materials:

Mushroom spores or mycelium
Growing medium (such as a mushroom compost or brown rice flour)
Sterilized jars or grow bags
Spray bottle
Perforated plastic storage box
Steps:

Preparation: Sterilize your jars or grow bags. Fill them with your chosen growing medium.
Introduce the mushroom spores or mycelium to the growing medium.
Store the inoculated jars or bags in a warm, dark place. A temperature around 70-75°F (21-24°C) is ideal.
Once you see white mycelium covering the medium, it’s time to introduce a light cycle. Place them in indirect light for a few hours each day.
Transfer the fully colonized medium to a perforated plastic storage box. Mist the inside of the box daily to maintain humidity.
Harvest mushrooms once they’ve fully grown, usually just before their caps fully uncurl.
Remember, cleanliness is essential in mushroom cultivation. Sterilize tools and work in a clean environment to prevent contamination. Enjoy your homegrown mushrooms!
